His focus for the last 2 or so decades has been the ‘edgelands’ in our city spaces - out of the way and unnoticed parts of the urban landscape such as railway land, derelict and industrial works and building sites. These spaces are largely unseen and uncared for but nevertheless occupy a large area of our urban environment and are indicative of change or transition. These are the sources for the elements he uses in his work – drawn and assembled together in a random and abstract way.
The landscape he has observed in the post industrial urban wastelands, which are rich in human history and memory, both compare and contrast to his wilderness images which are derived from solitary walks in the Highlands - like many Scottish artists, he is very much influenced by the natural, mostly untamed landscape of his homeland which has seen people settle, leave and return.
He has had a number of solo, joint and group shows and open studio events and has work in private collections in the UK and abroad.
